The University of the Philippines held its first Artificial Intelligence conference, dubbed “AI Horizon PH 2024.”
The two-day conference focused on research and advances in how AI can be incorporated in various industries and departments such as health and wellness, education, and agriculture.
The conference focused on various incorporation of AI, including robotics for the farming industry.
“Many of the values that work so well in the analog civilization no longer works in the civilization, and I’m talking about the civilization that we are living today in the cusp of great changes” UP president Angelo Jimenez said.
“It’s about time that we have initiatives like this and this will be a regular feature of our initiatives. So this is also part of our public service function which is to bring the academe to the wider market to benefit the Filipino people,” he added.
Experts highlighted that students today are highly familiar with AI, and urged them to contribute to social development using technology.
“UP’s AI-powered Research and Innovation Conference is unique. It’s different. Because in UP, we have AI expertise, but we also have the AI-powered experts in agriculture, fisheries and livestock for food security. We have our researchers in education and governance, in materials and energy, and in health and wellness, and we think that these are the top priority areas of national development in the country,” former UP Vice President for Academic Affairs and UP Innovation Advisor Dr. Gisela Concepcion said.
